Morlais - Tidal stream energy project

Morlais is a tidal stream energy project off holy Island. They have a lease from The Crown Estate for 35sq km of seabed.

They are consenting 240MW of tidal energy devices, although the deployment is likely to be phased. The onshore element of the project is to construct a shoreside substation and a grid end substation capable of connecting the generating devices to the grid. The cable connecting the substations and the substations will be rated at 132kV. They will be installing cables from the shoreside substation to sea through HDD, if conditions allow, and placing umbilical’s for the developers to connect to, Plug and Play.

With consent expected in July 2021, through an transport and work act order, they need to be able to clear conditions and carry out early design from January 2021 so that we are shovel ready in November 2021. The build phase for onshore works is to complete by mid 2023.

The latest contract element is for the onshore civil and electrical engineering elements of this project and it is to be advertised on Sell to Wales.
