The Nuclear Futures Institute at Bangor University was established in late 2017 to accelerate advances in nuclear research, training and technologies for the North Wales region. Nuclear energy has played a key role in the area for many decades and the end of the Magnox era has opened up greatnew opportunities with two exceptional nuclear licensed sites: Wylfa and Trawsfynydd. Funded through WEFO, the NFU has built extraordinary facilities that are being used by leading industry stakeholders to aid nuclear technology development. There is a growing research team consisting of masters students, industry sponsored PhD students, post-doctoral researchers with early career and seasoned academics led by Prof. Bill Lee.

Barry Training Services was founded in 1990, initially providing lift truck training to local companies, it rapidly expanded to other plant training as well as health and safety training courses accredited by the appropriate awarding bodies such as RTITB, ECITB, CITB, NPORS, SQA, UKATA, IOSH, IPAF, PASMA, JAUPT & Qualifications Network, new courses are continually being added and where possible we are happy to tailor a course to suit a Clients own specific needs. Horizon Nuclear Power is working to develop a new generation of nuclear power stations at Wylfa on Anglesey and Oldbury in Gloucestershire. Together, both projects would produce 5,800MW for the UK – enough to power around 11 million homes.

Both projects would create up to 850 permanent jobs during operation at each site, with a construction workforce of up to 9000. 

In January 2019, Horizon announced the suspension of most of its activities due to the absence of a suitable funding model, however work continues to secure a number of crucial permissions and permits to enable a swift restart should the correct conditions be met.  

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques have been in business for 45 years.  We are inventors, designers and manufacturers of welding purging equipment.  Anybody welding stainless steel, duplex, titanium or exotic alloys will have a requirement for purging and our inflatable systems and weld purge monitors save the welder valuable time and money in completing each weld with brilliant results.

We have extensive experience in nuclear: both new-build and decommissioning.  We have been involved with manufacturing bespoke purging and monitoring systems for HPC which have been used successfully on-site.
