Dr John Idris Jones
Chartered Physicist & Independent Consultant
John is a chartered physicist and independent consultant working in low carbon energy development. Based in the area, and with a background in the nuclear industry and in electricity generation in North West Wales, John now works with public and private sector organisations facilitating and supporting the de-risking of low carbon energy developments in North West Wales.
He previously held senior technical and management roles in Magnox at Wylfa power station. Before retiring from Magnox, he was Socio-economic Development Manager for Magnox in Wales. This included a period seconded to Anglesey Council as the Energy Island Programme Director (working on low Carbon projects in the area including Wylfa Newydd).
He is Chair of the Welsh Government’s Snowdonia Enterprise Zone Advisory Board (which includes the potential site of the UK’s first small modular reactor at Trawsfynydd and the potential site of UK’s spaceport at Llanbedr), and deputy Chair of the Anglesey Enterprise Zone Advisory Board.
He is also a director of the third sector social enterprise organisation Menter Mon which is involved in developing the Morlais Marine Energy zone off Holyhead in Anglesey. This has the potential to generate in excess of 200 MW of marine tidal stream electricity.
